Rana began her training at the early age of 8 years old and was one of Sharmila’s first students. Progressing to a professional standard quickly, she was performing for launches, events and concerts all over the Middle East by the age of 14.

In 2002, Rana left Sharmila and Dubai to continue her training at London Studio Centre, where she stayed for 3 years. After graduating, she spent some time as a freelance dancer, auditioning and performing in music videos for the likes of: Mel C (Spice Girls), James Morrison, Danni Minogue and Calvin Harris.

In the summer of 2007, Rana entered the television competition ‘Dance X’ which aired every Saturday evening, primetime BBC. The programme was judged by Arlene Phillips and Bruno Tonlioni, two well known choreographers in the UK. The ultimate goal through the process of elimination was to create a 5 member band. Every week, each contestant would perform a song/dance (LIVE) to their best ability, leaving it up to the judges and public to decide who stays and who goes. Out of the thousands who auditioned, Rana was one of the 5 chosen, leading her and her band members to a record deal and tour with artists such as: Rhianna and Ciara in which they performed their hit single ‘Dancing in Repeat.’

Rana then changed her sites to acting as well as singing and dancing. In 2008, she auditioned for ‘Britannia high,’ a drama series following 6 students as they experience their 1st year at Performing Arts College. Grabbing one of the 6 main roles, Rana ‘Lola’ co-stars with Adam Garcia and has had the incredible opportunity of working along side 10 of the top songwriters in the world, for example: Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams Album) and Elliot Kennedy (Spice Girls Album) ‘Britannia High’ airs on Sunday, primetime ITV. The series and album is now being sold in 14 different countries worldwide.

Sharmila’s comments;

“I’ve always felt that Rana had the talent and drive to succeed in the entertainment world. I loved teaching her and until today when she attends my classes in Dubai, every few months, I find it an utter joy!”
